Bearing Adapter NP261/263 or NV271/273 Input Shaft To NP231/241 Style Output Shaft
Most NP261/263 and NV271/273 transfer case input shafts will have a 1.625" (1-5/8") ID bore for the bearing which supports the main shaft (A.K.A. output shaft).
Most NP231/241 style transfer case input shafts will have a 1.500" (1-1/2") ID bore for the bearing which supports the main shaft.
When using a NP261/263 or NV271/273 transfer case input shaft with the Strong Box, you will need this adapter bearing kit installed into your input shaft.
The expansion plug goes in first with the domed side toward the front of shaft as it would be in the vehicle. Once it is pushed to the front of the bore, you will support it to keep it at front of bore while tapping the domed side of expansion plug through the splined bore. This will expand the plug and should seal off the opening. It is also a good idea to use some RTV sealant as well.
With the expansion plug successfully installed, you can install the adapter bearing, and install the input shaft into the planetary gears and the Strong Box.
This kit may be useful to adapt input shafts in other applications as well.
